About MacKye Kennels: Prince George’s Choice for Dog & Cat Boarding

Our Commitment

MacKye Kennels is dedicated to providing the highest standard of pet care and exceptional kennel accommodation for your dog and cat. Giving your pet a fun, safe and clean “home away from home” visit at our boarding kennel and “peace of mind” to our clients has always been and will always be our top priority and pleasure.

A Note from MacKye Kennels Owner Joanne

MacKye Kennels is located on a scenic 140+ acres within the Prince George city limits. This pristine boarding kennel is warm, homey and pet-friendly! Our modern and professionally designed facility is able to safely accommodate all dog breeds and cats. The kennel has been operating continuously since the 1960’s – first, under the name Norwolf. In 1985 my brother, Glenn and I purchased the business, renaming it MacKye Kennels. Glenn built a beautiful home above the kennel, and I am still living in the old farm house, which is just a hop, skip and jump from the kennel!

MacKye Kennels is a large and spacious boarding kennel, consisting of 3 buildings for house dogs and cats (one of which is specifically for small dogs and cats). It also has big, sheltered kennels for outdoor dogs, sheltered/chain-link exercise yards and an outdoor cat pen. This ensures the ability to care for all types of dogs and cats and to provide the perfect accommodation and exercise for your pet. Catering to the individual and necessary needs of your pet is our specialty. Safety, cleanliness, health and well-being are top priorities at MacKye Kennels!

About Joanne

Joanne was born in Burnaby, BC but has lived in Prince George for most of her life. Her mother, Joan, was a reputable, successful S.S. Dachshund breeder for 30+ years and Joanne was very involved with showing her mom’s dogs. Eventually, Joanne had her own dogs and had both conformation/obedience trial champions. Her father, Glen, took-in many ‘sad story’ horses, but his passion was his prize Morgan horses.

Joanne’s parents leased Norwolf Kennels from 1978 to 1982 and Joanne’s love-affair with the kennel began! Then, it was off to the North American Guard Dog Academy in the lower mainland for a 6-month course. She graduated with obedience and guard dog certification, placing #2 in obedience and #1 in guard. She returned to PG, training dogs and teaching obedience classes both privately and for the Northern Interior Kennel Club.

When Norwolf Kennels went up for sale in 1985, Joanne’s dream came true! Joanne is dedicated to her business and has over 35 years of experience and expertise in the pet boarding profession. For many years, Joanne enjoyed her beloved Dachshunds, Shepherds and long-living, 31-year-old Leopard Appaloosa horse; more recently, the gang has grown to an assortment of dogs needing a home.
